Background

The purpose of Northwest China Grid was to adapt to the objective super high-voltage grid operation demands, implement the “4-standard” work requirements proposed by the state grid, overall improve the capability of the dispatch agency to control the large grids, implement the research work for the state grid dispatch center to organize and practice the overall grid dispatch technical support system within the company system. As the basic platform of the entire system, D-5000 is the core and emphasis of the whole system research, its development is organized by the state grid dispatch center and participated by various provincial grids. Close cooperated was achieved in the project between China Electric Power Research Institute and the State Grid Electric Power Research Institute.

Core demands

Through independent development of power middleware with total intelligent property rights, dispatch program applications and dispatch management application system, the platform is able to realize real-time monitoring, online stability analysis, dispatch business management and other functions of the grid.

Demands analysis

To promote development, improve the power supply and management capability of the state grid, Northwest China Grid Co., Ltd hoped to establish a standard, open, reliable, safe and high-adaptability application platform to directly responsible for real-time monitoring and warning (new EMS), operation plan system (OPS), SCS and operation management system (OMS), meanwhile, build a stable, safe and unified managed physical equipments framework on the basis of the original infrastructure.

Solution

Based on the user’s requirements, Sugon designed a set of complete infrastructure solution, i.e. Sugon high-performance blade server cluster system. The high-performance computer system adopted in this solution is based on the common X86 cluster framework. Based on the application properties, Sugon selected its independently developed blade server product TC3600. This product had surpassed the traditional rack-mounted servers from may aspects, this is a new generation of server product with high stability, high availability, high scalability, high density and high performance. Tiankuo A840R-G is a 4U 4-way 64-bit rack-mounted server, it applies AMD series of processor, adopts HT3.0 direct connection architecture. Through the 4-way DDR 3 ECC memory technology, the memory capacity was up to 1TB. A840R-G adopts 4u rack design, its enjoys excellent appearance processes, modular design, intelligent cooling system and monitoring system, thus the reliability and operation of the machine were all greatly improved. The product was able to operate multiple mainstream operational systems, this is a new generation of server suitable for core-level application. The product is characterized by high processing speed, strong availability, management convenience, high reliability, etc. The system also provided multiple unique functional components, including the hog-swappable power efficient power, hot-sswappable fans redundant modules, intelligent fault indication system, etc.
